EB PRIMER/SILVER

General Information

Foil paper/board replacement system is designed to be printed on conventional paper/paper board. The system involves the application of an EB primer and VMP silver.

Physical Properties

  • Excellent adhesion of VMP silver over EB primer
  • Excellent scuff, scratch and rub resistance without protective OPV
  • Printed board has been processed through dye cutting/scoring/folding/perforation with no issues
  • Excellent water resistance
  • Excellent resistance to hand soap

Environmental Benfits

  • EB Primer/VMP Silver is designed to be more environmentally friendly than Foil Board/Paper and MET/PET lamination board
  • EB Primer is biodegradable in its fully cured state
  • VMP Silver is based on NC which is biodegradable
  • Aluminum content of the VMP silver ink is 2.6%, which is significantly lower than a conventional aluminum based ink. Coating weight is low. Silver should pose no barrier to the normal recycling chain
  • Overall aluminum content is a fraction of current Foil Board/Paper
  • No intermediate film required as a waste bi-product
  • Only print EB primer and silver where you need it

Stabilty

Annealing
exposure to elevated temperatures can significantly reduce or potentially eliminate residual retained solvents. EB Primer/VMP Silver can be annealed at 200°C (392°F) for 10 minutes, with no adverse effect on silver finish.
Heat Exposure
Final printed product has heat resistance at 150°F (65.6°C) for a minimum of 24 hours for worst case mid-summer exposure

Microwave Exposure
aluminum content is so low in the final product, heat generation in the board/ink during microwaving is significantly reduced. No cracking or flaking of silver has been seen in testing to date.

NOTE: A study of microwave heating and suitability should be carried out to determine acceptability by the end user on the correct substrate with the correct application weights of inks being used.

Indirect Food Contact

No known issues with regards to approval for indirect food contact, where a functional barrier (such as board) is present between the food product and the coatings/silver. EB primer has to be fully cured and silver dried appropriately
